A Milheim Foundation grant is made to provide funds for research work for the prevention, treatment and cure of cancer. It is the policy of the Foundation to assist researchers in initiating investigations, which can, secure long-term support from other sources.

Grant awards are determined by the following factors:

  • Existence of direct relationship between project and cancer biology or treatment.
  • Anticipated professional interest in project results.
  • Innovation and sophistication of experimental design
  • Use of appropriate techniques
  • Appropriateness and economy of budget in relationship to scope of project.
  • Probability that described work can be completed within a year
  • Training and experience of principal investigator
  • Strength of recommendation given principal investigator
  • Reputation of institution and strength of department
  • Departmental support available to principal investigator
